D requested we decorate some gingerbread men, we were on a bit of a time limit so whilst he was at kita I made the gingerbread men in advance using the recipe below.
350g plain flour
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
2 tsp Ground ginger
1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
175g Soft brown sugar
4 tbsp Golden syrup
Simply sift together the flour, bicarb, ginger & cinnamon.
Add the butter and mix until it looks like breadcrumbs.
Stir in the sugar.
Beat together the egg and golden syrup and then add to the mixture and pulse until it all sticks together.
Briefly knead the dough, wrap in clingfilm & place in the fridge for 15 mins.
Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface and using cutters cut out the gingerbreadmen shapes.
Bake in the oven for around 12 minutes at 180.
Leave to cool then decorate!
When he came back from kita we decorated them
I put out a variety of things like smarties, writing icing pens, sprinkles, silver balls, gummi bears and icing and just let him decorate how he liked.
He loves using the icing pens, & they are great at strengthening tiny hand muscles.
He covered most of them in icing
& had great fun picking out the toppings for each one
He concentrated really hard and decorated all the gingerbread men
Lots of colourful Gingerbreadmen
They seemed to taste yummy!
